Research Abstract |
In this study , I examined the following questions: (1) whether in trinsic motivation in store managers deteriorates by using franchising and agency theory needs to be revised to recognize the critical role of intrinsic motivation in franchise systems; and (2) what is the role of intrinsic motivation when we try to enhance relationships between franchisors and franchisees. I found that raising extrinsic motivation in store managers by using franchising does not lead to lower their intrinsic motivation. This finding indicates thatagency theory remains valid under taking intrinsic motivation into consideration. As for relationships between franchisors and franchisees, I found that distributive justice and interactional justice have significant positive effects on intrinsic motivation in franchisees, while procedural justice has not such effects. Also, my finding shows that intrinsic motivation has significant positive effects on franchisees’ affective commitment.
