Research Abstract

This study examined the “skills for improving product value (SPV) ” for the activation of small- and medium-sized manufacturing companies in Japan. The results are as follows:
(1) Strengthening the SPV is important for the activation of smalland medium-sized manufacturing companies in Japan.
(2) Small-and medium-sized manufacturing companies could offer various proposals to suppliers by using the SPV.
(3) The suggestions made by companies having the SPV could contribute to product design and rational production.
(4) To strengthen the SPV, companies must examine their in-house production technology and customer needs.
