THIS RESEARCH AIMS TO CLARIFY THE ARCHITECTURAL CHARACTARISTICS OF IMPERIAL PALACE IN THE ANCIENT JAPAN,MAINLY ON HEIANKYU. AND THROUGH COMPARATIVE STUDIES ON THE MAIN BUILDING OF JAPANESE IMPERIAL PALACES IN THE ANCIENT WITH THE MODERN AGE AND WITH THOSE OF ANCIENT EAST ASIA, IT IS POINTED OUT THAT THE ARCHITECTURAL STYLE OF THE PALACE BUILDING WAS DECIDED ECLECTIC WAY, AND THE RENEWAL OF THE STYLE WAS CAUSED BY CHANGE OF THE AFFAIRS OF THE NATIONAL CEREMONIES
