Research Abstract |
The present study investigated the function of slow electrical event in the brain including direct current (DC) potential and slow potential (SP) with respect to arousal using the data from animal and psychiatric experiments. The results have indicated that DC level fluctuates in response to arousal changes in relation to psychological and motor function, including movement, attention and motivation. It is suggested that DC potential can be a parameter of arousal condition, in addition to neuronal firing and AC potential, to eletrophysiologically understand the brain function. Furthermore, DC stimulation altered the auditory evoked potential and heart-rate variability indices, indicating the usefulness of DC potential in psychiatric practice.
