Research Abstract |
A simple method of producing bio-levulinates, which were expected to be useful alternative liquid diesel fuel, was studied. Butyl levulinate(4-oxo-pentanoic acid butyl ester, a typical bio-levulinate) was produced by a simple acid catalyzed solvolysis of cellulose powder. High amount of butyl levulinate about 60% on the theoretical yield was detected in this system.
