Research Abstract |
Particularly in the 1950s and 1960s, many Native Americans were relocated from reservations and their traditional territories to urban areas, due to a federal program. Those who relocated, as well as their descendants, continue to live in urban areas. Many of them face various problems, including poverty, unemployment, drug abuse, and alcoholism. There are organizations supporting urban Native Americans, however, their offices are often located in unsafe neighborhoods. Also, these offices tend to be hard to reach using public transportation, and not all recipients of their services own cars. Moreover, the funding resources of these organizations are very limited. As a result, there are insufficient services for urban Native Americans.
