Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to study the process of judicial reform in Languedoc during the eighteenth century through an investigation and analysis of source documentation at the National Archives of France and Departmental Archives in Languedoc. We found that the monarchy and local powers had collaborated to rebuild the local order; however, they also had conflicting views on the political order. Recent studies conducted in France and the US on the Ancien Regime reexamine the relationship between the king and local power from the viewpoint of negotiation and collaboration. This research contributes to the literature on the political order in Ancien Regime France.
