Research Abstract |
We identified a novel cohesin subunit RAD21L which isspecifically expressed in meiotic prophase. The meiosis-specific cohesins REC8 and RAD21Lhave been shown to localize along axial elements in a mutually exclusive manner until pachytene inmammalian meiosis. We examined the processes of axial element (AE) formation by comparablyanalyzing Rec8KO, Rad21LKO and Rec8/Rad21L double KO. Disruption of both REC8 andRAD21L abolishes AE formation, suggesting that meiotic cohesins are essential for AE formation.
