Research Abstract |
We screened potential telomerase inhibitors in food stuffs, and found that β-carotene, the most common carotenoid, significantly inhibited telomerase in cell-culture study. After treatment of the cells with β-carotene and vitamin E(α-tocopherol), telomerase activity was synergistically reduced. Furthermore, we ascertained the anti-telomerase action of β-carotene using in vivo tumor models.
