The functional significance of astrocytes remains ununderstood. Current study revealed that brain injury-induced calcium signaling in astrocytes contributes to the formation of reactive astrocytes and neuroprotective role of astrocytes via the regulation of translational repressor pumilio-2 and cell adhesion protein N-cadherin.
