Research Abstract |
We demonstrated the inhibitory role of autophagy in bronchial epithelial cell senescence induced by cigarette smoke extract(CSE) exposure. Although creatine kinase B(CKB) was not involved in regulation of autophagy function, decrease of CKB expression enhanced CSE-induced cellular senescence. Furthermore, CKB expression levels were reduced in bronchial epithelial cells isolated from COPD patients compared to those from non-smokers. Taken together, reduced CKB expression levels in lung may be involved in COPD pathogenesis through the acceleration of cellular senescence.
