Outline of Research at the Start

近年量子磁性科学において二つの新しい扉が開かれた。一つは量子磁性体における磁気準粒子の対称性・外場による分類・制御提案であり、もう一つは量子状態を特徴づける量子もつれ(エンタングルメント)の定量指標観測提案である。これら量子磁性科学における新しい可能性の開拓には高精度な中性子散乱が必須である。そこで、2021年に再稼働を果たした我が国の研究用原子炉JRR-3において、量子磁性研究に必須な高精度中性子散乱を実現する。これに電磁波分光および理論解析を組み合わせ、磁気準粒子制御と量子もつれ定量評価の学理を構築することで、新しい量子磁性科学を開拓する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

初年度に引き続き種々の量子磁性体に対して磁気対称性決定とそれに基づく磁気構造決定を行なった。希土類金属磁性体である YbNiSn に関してはその磁気空間群が Pn’m’a と決定され、磁気モーメントのa方向成分が反強磁性、c方向成分が強磁性と決定された。この磁気構造を元に磁場中での磁気構造を類推することで、1Tの磁場下では Pnm’a’となることが提案された。これらの磁気対称性においては興味深いピエゾ磁気効果を発現すると予想され、圧力下での磁気測定が現在進展している。また、六方晶磁性体 Ce3Ag4Mg12 等における興味深い非整合磁気構造を発見しその磁気構造解析に成功するなど、この方向には大きな成果が得られ続けている。電磁場分光からは S = 1/2 Ising型反強磁性体CsCoCl3の強磁場ESR測定を行うことで、磁化容易軸に垂直に磁場を加えて現れる量子臨界点に向かって、この系に特徴的なスピノン励起がエネルギー連続帯の幅を収束させながらソフト化する興味深い振る舞いを観測することに成功した。理論的研究の実績としては、磁性表現論を用いることで、波数依存性をもつ異方的相互作用に対する対称性の分類を行った。得られた形式を立方晶点群Thに適用することで、異方的相互作用に由来した磁気ヘッジホッグ格子相の発現を見出した。

Reason

初年度に引き続き磁気対称性決定に関しては前述の通り大きな成果が得られており、進展は順調と言える。今後二次元検出器の有効利用が可能になるとさらなる進展が期待されるため、この意味でも本研究計画は順調に進んでいると言える。初年度、および本年度に得られた磁気対称性のいくつかは磁気位準粒子分散に特徴的な効果を示すことが予想され、さらに本年度の圧力下実験等からは磁気構造とそれに強く関連する磁気準粒子分散を外場で制御できる可能性が示唆されたことも本研究の目的に整合し、かつ将来につながる大きな成果であると考えている。量子もつれに関しては中性子散乱からの進展は限定的であるが、電磁波分光では興味深い成果が得られ続けておりこの方向も順調に進展していると言える。理論研究では磁気対称性が最も有効に利用される磁気表現論から異方的相互作用由来の磁気ヘッジホッグ格子相を発見するなど、こちらも大きな成果が得られていると言える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

中性子散乱に関してはより多くの量子磁性体に関して磁気対称性決定を進めるとともに、その対称性分類から特徴的(例えばスピン分裂)磁気準粒子分散やその外場制御可能性を有する物質群を発見する。またこれに関して二次元検出器を有効に利用する方策を検討し、実用に供する。電場、圧力等の外場による磁気準粒子分散制御に関しては、我々の研究室で大きな精度上昇に成功した外場下帯磁率測定をさらに進め、まずはバルク磁性体における磁性制御の詳細を確認する。このことで時間のかかる非弾性中性子散乱を効率的に推進する。電磁波分光に関しては、CsCoCl3の偏光を用いたESR測定からS = 1/2 Ising型反強磁性体の磁気励起の光学選択則を調べ、数値計算との比較から垂直磁場下のスピンダイナミクスを解明する。理論研究に関しては、前年に引き続き、機械学習を利用してトポロジカルスピン構造を安定化する微視的ハミルトニアンを効率的に生成する手法の確立を目指す。
