Outline of Research at the Start

「火星は生命の発生に適した大気環境を有したか?」という問いに答えるべく、以下の2課題を遂行する。(課題A)炭素と窒素の宇宙空間への流出率とその長期変遷を、最新の火星探査機の観測的実証に基づいて明らかにする。そして、火星大気における生命材料分子の前駆物質の生成量が、過去40億年間にわたって変遷するメカニズムを明らかにする。(課題B)大気中の生命材料分子の前駆物質が降雨によって降り積もり、河川や湖等に局所的に濃集した結果生じる全球濃度分布を見積もる。室内合成実験と組み合わせて生命材料分子の生成量と生成地域を定量的に評価し、初期火星における前生命的合成の効率を他の候補過程や初期地球と比較検討する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

「火星は生命の発生に適した大気環境を有したか」という問いに答えるべく、課題AではCとNを含む火星大気の流出率と生命構成分子の前駆物質(H2CO等)の生成率の長期変遷を、課題Bでは初期火星における前駆物質の降下量とリボース等の生命構成分子の生成量を調査した。
課題Aでは、汎惑星大気光化学モデルを開発し[Nakamura+2023a]、同モデルにSEP降込みモジュールを組み込むことで、現在の火星大気条件下におけるHOx, NOx, H2CO等の組成変化を定量評価した[Nakamura+2023b]。さらに同モデルを拡張してCO同位体比の高度変化を評価し[Yoshida+2023]、火星探査機TGOによって火星大気中で観測された13Cに枯渇するCO同位体比[Aoki+2023]を説明することに成功した。熱圏-外圏DSMCモデルに動的負荷分散技法OhHelpを実装し、並列化効率と計算効率の向上を進めた。CO, CO2とその光化学生成物の放射冷却による流体力学的散逸率の抑制を見積った[Yoshida+投稿準備中]。多流体MHDモデルを構築し、初期火星におけるイオン流出率の固有磁場依存性の多成分MHDモデルとの差異を示した[Sakata+受理済]。課題AとBの数値モデル群の観測検証では、TGOとMAVENの分光・粒子観測データに加え、MEXのサウンダー観測データも用いて比較検証を進めた[Harada+2023;Aoki+2023など]。
課題BのH2CO降下量見積りでは、約38-36億年前の火星大気中でH2COが継続的に生成されていたことを示し、太古の火星の海におけるリボース生成量を推定した[Koyama+2024]。課題Bのリボース合成実験は論文が受理された[Ono+受理済]。さらに生成する糖と糖酸のリン酸化が乾燥環境で可能であることを示した[Hirakawa+2024]。

Reason

研究課題の大部分の項目において、当初の計画以上の成果を創出している。課題AとBの数値モデル群は開発・改良を予定通りに進めており、「研究実績の概要」で述べたように多数の学術論文として研究成果をまとめている。特に当初の計画では予定していなかった火星大気中のCO同位体比のモデリングおよび観測の成果は、欧州宇宙機関ESAでウェブリリースされるなど世界的に注目を集めている。他にも、今後打ち上げ予定の日本の火星衛星探査機MMXの観測に備えてイオン観測データから中性大気の分布をリトリーバルする手法の開発を進めており、論文を投稿中である。初期火星におけるH2CO降下量の見積りにおいては、同位体比の変化も含めて計算を行い、火星探査車Curiosityが火星堆積物で発見した有機物中における同位体比と比較議論した論文を投稿中である。このように、ほぼ全ての項目において計画通りもしくはそれ以上に成果を創出し、学術論文として出版済みもしくは投稿中の段階にある。研究計画の2年目としては十二分の成果であり、当初の計画以上に進展していると考える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

前年度までに開発した数値モデル群の改良と探査機観測による検証を引き続き行う。課題Aでは、前年度までに火星大気組成進化モデルとSEP降り込みモジュールを開発し、現在および過去の火星大気条件下において光解離によるCO同位体比の高度分布や、SEP降り込みによるH2CO等の組成変化の見積りに成功した。今後は、火星大気組成の長期変遷、ならびにSEP降り込み等による水蒸気の解離が組成変化に及ぼす影響を調査する。また、開発した数値モデルを検証すべく、SEPイベント時における火星探査機TGOの分光観測データ、MAVENの分光・粒子観測データ、MEXのサウンダー観測データとの比較検証を更に進める。火星熱圏-外圏全粒子DSMCモデルに大気微量成分の計算を組み込むべく、動的負荷分散技法OhHelpによる並列化効率と計算効率の更なる向上を図る。火星探査機MMXが観測予定の流出イオンのデータ解析に備えるべく、イオン観測データから中性大気の分布をリトリーバルする手法の開発をMHDモデルも組み合わせて進める。さらに流体力学的散逸モデルに、大気組成進化モデルから得られた中層・下層大気の組成分布を組み込む改良を進める。課題Bでは、前年度までに開発した初期火星大気圏-水圏-氷圏結合モデルの計算を実行し、初期火星における降水・地表流水分布や地表面温度の長期変遷を見積る。火星探査車Curiosityが火星堆積物で発見した有機物中における13Cに枯渇した同位体比を、火星大気中で生成された前駆物質の降り積もりで説明できるか定量的見積りを行う。室内合成実験においては、ホルモース反応による糖の生成に対する共存イオンの影響やカルボン酸の生成に関する研究を進める。
