Outline of Research at the Start

中層大気（成層圏・中間圏・下部熱圏）の変動は地上の気象・気候にも影響することが知られているが、その大循環の3次元構造はこれを記述する理論がなかったため未解明である。そこで、本研究では、研究代表者らが推進してきた南極大型大気レーダーによる長期連続観測・全中層大気のデータ同化システム開発・重力波解像大気大循環モデル・3次元ラグランジュ流理論の4手法を融合させて、中層大気大循環の3次元構造や、階層構造をなす大小さまざまな波の発生・伝播・減衰を通した大循環の駆動機構、中層大気大循環および波の階層構造の季節内変動～年々変動の特徴とメカニズムについて、抜本的解明を行う。
