Outline of Research at the Start

中層大気(成層圏・中間圏・下部熱圏)の変動は地上の気象・気候にも影響することが知られているが、その大循環の3次元構造はこれを記述する理論がなかったため未解明である。そこで、本研究では、研究代表者らが推進してきた南極大型大気レーダーによる長期連続観測・全中層大気のデータ同化システム開発・重力波解像大気大循環モデル・3次元ラグランジュ流理論の4手法を融合させて、中層大気大循環の3次元構造や、階層構造をなす大小さまざまな波の発生・伝播・減衰を通した大循環の駆動機構、中層大気大循環および波の階層構造の季節内変動~年々変動の特徴とメカニズムについて、抜本的解明を行う。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

・JAWARAの記述論文とデータを公開した。これを用いた波数1ロスビー重力モードの力学特性を解析した。成層圏・下部中間圏では冬半球で強く上部中間圏では理論と整合的な位相構造を持つことがわかった。論文出版済。また北極成層圏突然昇温のプレコンディショニングを研究し論文出版した。2023年3~4月に赤道中間圏SAOの東風極端イベントについて、JAWARAを用いた運動量収支解析を行い、対流圏起源の上向き波動のフィルタリングと砕波に伴う波強制、及び、北半球中緯度の重力波強制による角運動量移流のバランスにより発生したことが解明された。論文発表済。JAWARAと全球再解析データERA5を高解像JAGUARの初期値に用い、2021年を対象に通年再現実験を実施した。現在解析中。
・地球大気研究において考案したTEM系による間接診断法を火星大気再解析データEMARSに適用し、平穏時のラグランジュ循環の特徴を解明すると共に、駆動への重力波の寄与は地球を大きく凌ぐことが解明された。論文出版済。
・南極PANSYレーダー観測は継続中である。PANSYで観測された大気重力波を対象にラージエディシミュレーションを行い、中間圏での重力波砕波に伴う渦構造の物理機構を渦力学理論により考察し平均流加速の具体像を得ることができた。論文準備中。
・3次元ラグランジュ流理論を用いて成層圏大循環の浅い循環の3次元構造と駆動源を解析した。停滞性も含むロスビー波等地衡風擾乱による駆動、重力波等非地衡擾乱による駆動、顕熱・潜熱による駆動を分けて解析し、気候学的特徴を明らかにした。重力波については高解像ERA5の解析も行い整合性やERA5の限界に関する知見を得た。論文準備中。
・過去約10年の日本の気象学研究のレビューと展望を述べる「日本の気象学の現状と展望2024」が出版され、中層大気や観測に関する執筆分担を行った。

Reason

JAWARAを生み出したプロジェクトICSOMの論文が2023年のJGR-Atmosphereの読者数上位10%の論文となった。波数1ロスビー重力モードの論文はEditor’s highlightに選定された。JAWARAの記述論文とデータを公開してプレスリリースしたところ多くの反響があった。11件の論文出版を行った。3名の大学院生が優秀学生発表賞を受賞した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

・PANSYレーダーの10年近い蓄積データを用いて、中間圏の鉛直風のクライマトロジーを明らかにする。1年分の高解像JAGUARのシミュレーションデータを用いて残差循環を調べ、PANSYレーダーで観測された鉛直流の成因を探求する。上部成層圏にみられた大気重力波の反射の機構の詳細解析を引き続き進める。また、慣性重力波の砕波を対象とした回転系での数値シミュレーションを実施し、非回転系での砕波で明らかにした機構がどのように変調されるかを調べる。
・JAWARAを用いた複数のノーマルモードの季節特性を明らかにするとともに、共通する発生・増幅メカニズムを解明し、論文出版する。同時にラムモードとペケリスモードについても分解して解析を行い、その特徴を解明する。火星のグローバルダストストーム時の大気大循環の変化と重力波の役割を、診断的手法により明らかにする。
・高解像度JAGUARへの新しい積雲対流パラメタリゼーションの導入を完成させ、降水スペクトルならびに大気波動スペクトルの変化を調査する。
・ブリュワドブソン循環の浅い循環の3次元構造に関するこれまでの解析結果をまとめ、論文出版する。また、対地群速度に比例する波活動度フラックスを用いた解析を行い、その収束・発散を用いた物質輸送の評価方法に関する新たな研究を始める。
