Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では人工鉄鋼スラグを単独原料として他の主触媒を添加することなく、ハイドロキシアパタイトを合成し、その可視光応答型への誘導、異種結晶の接合、磁性付与により、リグニン分解および水素生成を促進する機能性光触媒複合体を開発する。DFT構造緩和計算によりふさわしい異元素を絞込み、異元素ドープや原子欠損による電子トラップレベルの付与によって光触媒活性を向上させる。大量生産が可能な光触媒複合体の開発により、炭素循環と基幹産業である製鉄プロセスがコントロールする鉄と水素の循環を連結し、カーボンネガティブの実現にむけて、地球環境と経済の両立に貢献する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、大量に副生しながら付加価値の高い用途が定まっていない鉄鋼スラグを可視光応答型光触媒複合体とし、炭素循環の要となるリグニン分解および水素発生に応用し、アップサイクリングすることを目的としている。2022年度には高炉スラグ、転炉スラグをカルシウム源として、容易に得られやすいFe(III)をドープしたハイドロキシアパタイトを合成し、単独あるいは他の光触媒と複合化して、Cr(VI)還元、水素生成、グルコースから乳酸への転換反応に有効であること見出した。2023年度には、この申請に挙げた核心的学術課題である、本来絶縁体である「ハイドロキシアパタイトを可視光応答型光触媒に転換するドープ元素の属性指針」は何か、という問いに対して、ハイドロキシアパタイトへのドープ元素としてなぜFe(III)が光触媒活性を上げるのに効果的であったか、他には何があるのかを理解すべく、計画には無かった機械学習(AI)によりアプローチした。半導体のバンドギャップのデータベースと化合物のCrystallographic. Information File (CIF)ファイルに基づいて予測されるバンドギャップとの相関が限りなく1に近づくよう計算を改善していった。一連の遷移金属のドープ量、金属の価数を変化させ、得られた結晶から推定されるバンドギャップを推定したところ、ドープ元素のd軌道電子数がバンドギャップに強い影響を与えていることが推定された。バンドギャップを極小にするには、Caに対するFeのモル比は15%、Feの価数はFe(III)がFe(II)よりも優れていることがわかった。Feと同様の効果を示すと予想されるものとしてRuや Osが挙げられる。偶然ではあるが、Feは容易に扱え、バンドギャップを小さくする効果が高い希少な元素といえる。

Reason

申請時に掲げていた核心的学術課題に対して、機械学習により解を得た。今後根拠をもってFe(III)ドープハイドロキシアパタイトを継続して扱う。高炉スラグ、転炉スラグそれぞれをカルシウム源としたハイドロキシアパタイトを合成したが、高炉スラグの方が鉄量を調整しやすく扱いやすかった。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

水素の生成の光触媒反応への応用に向けて、鉄鋼スラグ由来のFe(III)ドープハイドロキシアパタイトとアナターゼの複合化の方法としてそれぞれ単独に合成したものを物理的に混合する方法と、あらかじめFe(III)ドープハイドロキシアパタイトを合成し、これを基としてアナターゼを結晶化させる方法がある。そのあとのPt(0)担持の条件検討、すなわち前駆体の選択、光化学還元によりPt(0)がTiO2上に選択的に担持される工夫が必要である。良好な接合と高い分散性を同時に満足するような複合体の合成を目指す。
