Outline of Research at the Start

実現困難な二酸化炭素(CO2)の温和な条件での資源化(ギ酸、メタノール、CO)を可能にする革新的な固体触媒を創製する。
i) <反応場の設計>CO2を選択的に活性点近傍で吸着濃縮できる塩基性ナノ空間を有する担体の構築、ii) <活性点の設計>CO2を活性化できる触媒活性点の精密制御、iii) <外部エネルギーの設計>安定なCO2に摂動を与えるプラズモン増強反応場の創製、を重視し融合する。オペランド観察と理論計算の支援により、触媒活性点構造と作用機構の相関を解明し、温和な条件でのCO2資源化を可能にする「ナノ空間を活用する協奏的触媒」の開発と学理を築く。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本申請課題では、①高機能触媒の探索、②活性点構造・作用機構の解明、 ③協奏的触媒の創出の研究を行う。①では、「塩基性反応場」と「触媒活性点」の制御、「プラズモン増強反応場」の創成を検討する。ターゲット反応はCO2の水素化によるギ酸・メタノール・CO合成である。②では、実験的(オペランド観測など)および理論計算的検討により、反応機構の解明に取り組む。③では、①②で個々に探索したそれぞれの機能を相乗的に融合させ、既存触媒の凌駕を目指す。
本年度は、①高機能触媒の探索について、以下の研究を遂行した。
プラズモン増強反応場の構築:反応温度の上昇に伴い活性点近傍のCO2濃度が減少するという、吸熱反応には致命的な課題を克服すべく、光照射下でAgやAuナノ粒子近傍に誘起されたプラズモン増強反応場を巧みに利用し、CO2分子に摂動を与え活性化を支援する特殊反応場を設計した。すなわち、プラズモン特性を活用し、触媒活性サイトに局所的に外部エネルギーを注入することができれば、常温で吸着濃縮されたCO2を、熱力学的制約に反して活性化に導くことができる。申請者はこれまで形状サイズを制御したAgナノ粒子や酸素欠損をドープした還元型酸化Moナノシートに誘起されたプラズモン増強電場によりアンモニアボラン(NH3BH3)やギ酸(HCOOH)分子に摂動を与え、それら分解反応が飛躍的に促進されることを見出している。ここでは、Agナノ粒子や還元型酸化Moナノシートをベースにプラズモン材料の形状・サイズの制御、新規探索により安定なCO2分子の活性化を試みた。本発想は外部エネルギー(光)利用による、熱、光、電場を融合した反応サイトの局所集中的な活性化であり、世界に先駆けた独創性の高い試みであるが、これまでの成果により、この新しい触媒設計コンセプトが妥当であることを見極めることができた。

Reason

本年度は、①高機能触媒の探索について、以下の研究を遂行した。
反応温度の上昇に伴い活性点近傍のCO2濃度が減少するという、吸熱反応には致命的な課題を克服すべく、光照射下でAgナノ粒子や還元型酸化Mo種に誘起されたプラズモン増強反応場を巧みに利用し、CO2分子に摂動を与え活性化を支援する特殊反応場を設計することができた。特に、Agナノ粒子に触媒活性点のPdを添加した系や還元型酸化MoナノシートにPtを添加した系を設計し、プラズモン材料の形状・サイズの制御、新規探索により安定なCO2分子の活性化を試みた。開発したのは、外部エネルギー(光)利用による、熱、光、電場を融合した反応サイトの局所集中的な活性化プロセスであり、世界に先駆けた独創性の高い試みであり、新しい触媒設計コンセプトの妥当性を見極めることができた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本申請課題では、①高機能触媒の探索、②活性点構造・作用機構の解明、 ③協奏的触媒の創出という一連の研究を行う。①では、「塩基性反応場」と「触媒活性点」の制御、「プラズモン増強反応場」の創成を検討する。ターゲット反応はCO2の水素化によるギ酸・メタノール・CO合成である。②では、実験的(オペランド観測など)および理論計算的検討により、反応機構の解明に取り組む。③では、①②で個々に探索したそれぞれの機能を相乗的に融合させ、既存触媒の凌駕を目指す。
今後は、②オペランド観測や理論計算的検討により、反応機構の解明に取り組む、および、③種々の機能を相乗的に融合させ、既存触媒の凌駕を目指すために、以下の研究を遂行する。
オペランド放射光XAFSや吸着種IR観察など各種分光学的手法を駆使して、触媒活性種近傍の微細構造と触媒機能の関連を明確にし、更なる高性能触媒の設計指針にフィードバックする。オペランドでの構造解析、特に申請者が得意とする放射光XAFS測定では合金ナノ粒子生成過程の追跡だけでなく、様々な反応ステージでの測定によって、反応中間体の微細構造も高精度で決定する。加えて量子化学計算からもアプローチし、CO2活性化と表面吸着種の反応制御の学理を確立する。さらに、これまでに得られた知見を基にして、それぞれの機能を最大限発揮し相乗効果の発現を狙う。
