Outline of Research at the Start

本課題で着目する一次元物質は、数原子からなる直径の細線(原子細線)であり、重要な点は原子細線の単結晶を合成することである。原子細線結晶は、同じ物質で三次元固体、二次元薄膜、一次元細線として用いることが可能である。また、ファンデルワールス結晶の利点を生かし、原子細線結晶の作る一次元の空隙に原子や分子を挿入することにより、新規機能開拓が可能である。本申請では、①サイズ/形状制御された原子細線単結晶の合成、②細線間の空隙への原子/分子挿入技術の確立、③物質の次元をコントロールした物性開拓、に焦点を当て、原子細線の利点を最大限に生かした応用を探索する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2023年度は、引き続き(i)原子細線の構造制御と物性解明、および(ii)原子細線束への異種原子のインターカレーションを中心に研究を進めた。
構造制御に関しては、化学気相成長の条件の改善を通じて、サファイア基板上での原子細線の配向薄膜の密度制御を行った。また、薄膜の形状加工の条件検討を行い、フォトリソグラフィーとプラズマエッチングを利用したプロセスの条件を確立した。この薄膜に電極を作製し、細線の軸に平行および垂直方向で大きな電気抵抗の異方性を示すことが確認された。これらは、薄膜における細線の配向状態を強く反映した結果といえる。また、異方的な電子状態の検証に向け、可視領域での光吸収スペクトルを測定した。上記に示した、成長条件の改善により、高密度に細線が配列した試料の作製が可能となった。このような高密度薄膜において吸収スペクトルにおけるS/N比を大きく改善することができ、偏光に依存した測定によって軸に平行な偏光に対し吸収ピークが増強することを明らかにした。これらの異方的な吸収ピークは、原子細線のバンド間遷移に起因するものであると考えられる。今後、実験結果と理論計算と比較し、その起源を明らかにする。
細線間の空隙への原子・分子の挿入技術の確立と構造解明に関しては、ドープ率の制御を中心に試料作製を行った。ドープ率の制御は、実績のあるIn原子を中心に処理時の温度・時間を変えながら、ラマンスペクトルの変化を調べた。特に、処理温度を変えたときに、ピークの形状が連続的に変化していく様子が観測され、ドープ率が制御できたことを示唆している。

Reason

当初の計画通り、遷移金属カルコゲナイド原子細線束について、合成技術の高度化と空隙への異種原子の挿入に関する研究は順調に進んでいる。特に、高密度な配向薄膜の合成に成功し、電子輸送や光学特性の実験について進展があった。以上より、計画はおおむね順調に進展しているといえる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

①原子細線のフェルミレベルや電子状態の制御を目指し細線間の空隙への原子・分子の挿入技術の開発を進める。具体的には、昨年度に引き続き気相法を利用した、異種金属のインターカレーションを行う。ドープ率の制御は、処理時の温度や時間を変えながら、ラマンスペクトルの変化を調べていく。異なる原子のインターカレーションでは、Tl、Gaやアルカリ金属について、引き続き温度等の処理条件の最適化を進める。作製した試料は、電子顕微鏡観察や元素分析により異種原子の分布や試料の結晶構造を評価していく。
②原子細線の物性については、分光および電子輸送を利用したアプローチより解明を目指す。分光に関しては、光吸収やラマンスペクトルより電子構造の異方性および低温での電子状態に関する研究を行う。具体的には、分光エリプソメトリーを利用した赤外から紫外域までの光学定数の測定や、パイエルス転移等の構造相転移の検証に向けてラマン散乱の温度依存性についての実験を進める。また、トンネル分光や電界ドーピングを利用した電子状態・物性探索に向け、絶縁膜転写とトップゲート電極の作製に関する要素技術を引き続き開発していく。
