Outline of Research at the Start

水から電子を取り出す半導体光触媒が半世紀にわたる材料探索のなかでいくつも見いだされてきた。これらを改良して社会実装しようとする開発研究が世界中でおこなわれている。その一方で、光触媒のサイエンスを探求する基礎研究は古くから知られた光触媒材料に集中しており、ここに生じた材料ギャップ（material gap）を埋めようとする研究は例外的である。本研究では、最近開発された世界最高レベルの量子収率で水を完全分解する半導体光触媒(NaTaO3とSrTiO3)がミリ秒の時間をかけて水を酸素と水素に分解する物質変換メカニズムを解明する。
