Outline of Research at the Start

微生物が持つ多様なロドプシンは、光エネルギーをイオン輸送や環状ヌクレオチド合成など様々な仕事に変換する。そのためこれらのロドプシンは、古くより生物物理学や構造生物化学の重要な研究対象とされてきた。また、微生物型ロドプシンは様々な生命現象を光制御する技術（光遺伝学：オプトジェネティクス）に利用されており、神経科学をはじめとする生物学分野において広く活用されている。本研究では、多様なロドプシンの各種中間体構造を解明し、その光反応を幅広い時間スケールで包括的、統合的に理解することを目指す。
