Outline of Research at the Start

多細胞生物のゲノム情報が如何に細胞種特異的に或いは状況に応じて機能するのかをエピジェネティック制御の観点から理解するために、転写が不活性なクロマチン状態であるヘテロクロマチンをモデルとして、種を越えて保存されている転写抑制のエピゲノムであるヒストンH3の９番目のリシン(H3K9)のメチル化とその制御因子によりどのようにしてヘテロクロマチンの形成・維持が調節されているのか、を明らかにする。合成生物学的手法も用いながら、異なる階層の研究を並行して進めることで、その機構の３次元レベルでの理解とH3K9メチル化による転写抑制の本質を解き明かしたい。
