Outline of Research at the Start

近年のヒトをはじめとする様々な動物の研究で、環境情報は外部感覚器官で受容されるだけでなく、体表や内臓などさまざまな組織で感知され統合され、全身の生理状態を変化させること、神経系がその統合センターとして働くことがわかってきている。本研究では線虫「C.エレガンス」を用いて飢餓やストレスがどう感知されて神経系で処理され、いかに行動を変化させるかを解明する。線虫は体長約1mmで約1000個の細胞からできており、神経のつながりがすべて分かっていて研究に有利である。インスリンや他のペプチド、腸内細菌がどう情報を伝え、神経回路での情報の流れを変化させるかを遺伝子改変やイメージングにより明らかにする。
