Outline of Research at the Start |
After the formation of blood vessels, the remodeling of vessels occurs to generate a hierarchical network of larger arteries and veins and smaller capillaries of optimal vessel density. A major regulator of vessel remodeling is hemodynamic forces, which inflict mechanical stresses on endothelial cells (ECs). The mechanism by which hemodynamic forces regulate EC behaviors to modulate blood vessel size is still an open question. Here, we seek to unravel how hemodynamic forces remodel EC actomyosin organization and junctions to regulate EC behaviors and control vessel diameter.
