Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は強相関f電子系超伝導体、とりわけ新奇ウラン化合物超伝導体UTe2と強磁性超伝導体に焦点を絞り、「スピン三重項超伝導状態の理解」とバルクスピン三重項超伝導として期待される「トポロジカル超伝導の実験的・理論的解明」を目的とする。これらの超伝導の発現機構の解明、スピン三重項・トポロジカル超伝導に起因した新奇超伝導現象の発見を目指す。微細加工試料による非相反輸送現象、NMR、量子振動効果などの実験と微視的理論との有機的な結合により、「トポロジカルスピン三重項超伝導の物理」を構築する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的は、トポロジカルスピン三重項超伝導状態の確立を目指すことである。より具体的には、UTe2を中心とした強相関スピン三重項超伝導体と考えられている物質の磁場誘起超伝導や多重超伝導の発現機構解明、トポロジカル超伝導に期待されるエッジ伝導の検出などを目指している。
当該年度の成果として、まず第一に磁場再突入型超伝導の発現機構の解明が挙げられる。UTe2のb軸方向に磁場を加えると磁場再突入型超伝導が現れるが、これを強磁場中のNMR測定によって磁気ゆらぎという観点から実験を行った。その結果、スピン・格子緩和率1/T1およびスピン・スピン緩和率1/T2がメタ磁性磁場に向かって急激に増大することを見出した。これらは、縦の磁気ゆらぎが磁場とともに増大していることを示している。すなわち、超伝導電子対の結合が磁場とともに強まっており、このため磁場再突入型超伝導を生み出していることがわかった。フランスのLNCMI-G、CEA-Grenobleとの国際共同研究の成果であり、プレス発表も行われた。
第二に、常圧において現れる磁場再突入型超伝導のもとで、多重超伝導を発見したことが挙げられる。強磁場、極低温下で精密に比熱測定を行うことで、二段の比熱の飛びを観測した。超伝導相内部にさらに別の超伝導相が存在することを熱力学的な証拠として明らかにした。
第三に、Tc=2.1Kの純良単結晶をもちいた高圧下のNMR測定をおこなうことで、多重超伝導相のスピン状態をNMR測定により明らかにしたことが挙げられる。ナイトシフトの温度依存性から、高温側の超伝導相ではナイトシフトが変化しない一方、低温側の超伝導相では、ナイトシフトが明瞭に減少することを確認した。2つの超伝導相は異なった超伝導秩序変数になっていることを微視的に明らかにした。

Reason

すでに述べたように、UTe2の多重超伝導や磁場再突入型超伝導についての実験研究が大きく進展した。これは、技術革新によりUTe2の純良単結晶育成が得られるようになったことが大きい。まさに「ゲームチェンジャー」としての役割を果たしており、今後も超伝導対称性についての実験研究が進むことが期待される。
また、3GPaを超える超高圧の実験研究も進展した。4GPa前後で、UTe2の構造相転移を発見し、直方晶から体心正方晶になることを見出した。さらに7GPa以上の高圧下で、一度抑制された超伝導が再び現れることを発見した。ただし、いわゆる電子相関の効いた超伝導ではなく、僅かな磁場で超伝導が抑制されることも見出した。これらは、当初予期していなかった結果であり、UTe2の特徴的な結晶構造に起因しているものとの考えられる。とりわけ、U-U間の距離が圧力とともに短くなるにもかかわらず、構造相転移でふたたび階段的に増大するのは大変興味深い。5f電子状態が大きく変化し、フェルミ面の劇的な変化も伴っているものと考えられる。以上のとおり、予定していた研究が行われて、予期せぬ成果も得られていることから「おおむね順調に進展している」と判断した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後、超純良単結晶を用いたNMR測定、dHvA測定、非相反抵抗測定など多角的な側面から研究を進めていく。たとえば、磁場再突入型超伝導をNMRのナイトシフト測定から研究することは、超伝導秩序変数を決定するうえで極めて重要である。また、高圧下のdHvA測定も行う。圧力とともにフェルミ面がどう変化することによって、多重超伝導を生み出しているかを明らかにすることはきわめて重要である。さらにFIB加工した試料によるエッジ伝導の検出やトポロジカル超伝導ダイオード効果、熱ホール効果、半整数量子磁束といった挑戦的なテーマについても研究を進める。これらの研究は、実験と理論が車の両輪となって進めるべき課題である。さらに、新たな物質開発も行う。局所的に反転対称性の破れた構造を持つウラン化合物に焦点を絞って、物質探索を進める。カルコゲナイド、プニクタイド化合物は圧力や磁場などの外場によって、基底状態を大きく変えるものが多く、これらの物質群は大きなターゲットである。
