Outline of Research at the Start

伝送線路上の伝搬モードの量子状態を取り扱う導波路量子電磁力学(waveguide QED)の分野に関わる研究を行う。超伝導量子ビット・共振器・伝送線路などを組み合わせて、マイクロ波伝搬モードに対する新たな量子状態制御・観測手法を開発し、量子情報処理や量子センシングへの応用可能性を探る。超伝導量子ビットの強い非線形性は、共振器中や伝送線路上で、単一光子状態や真空スクイージング状態、シュレーディンガーの猫状態などのマイクロ波非古典状態の生成や測定を可能にし、さらに複数のモード間での相互作用も司って量子もつれ制御や評価も可能にする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

①伝搬モード上のマイクロ波光子を用いた量子ビット間状態転送―伝送線路上を伝搬するマイクロ波光子を介して量子ビット間で量子情報を転送するための要素技術として、量子ビットからのマイクロ波光子波束放出と、その時間反転過程となる光子波束吸収の過程を個別に評価した。共振器の帯域幅である40 MHz程度の周波数可変性と95%程度の放出・吸収効率を実験で確認した。
②超伝導量子ビット読み出し回路新規提案と動作実証―、量子ビットのエネルギー緩和を強く抑制し、同時に高速の読み出しを可能にするようなノッチ型の周波数特性を持つ回路を提案・実装し、世界トップクラスの高い忠実度を得た。さらに読み出しを行わないアイドル時に、量子ビットが共振器中の雑音光子数揺らぎから受ける位相緩和も抑制するために、通常の線型なフィルタ共振器を非線形な共振器で置き換える方式を提案・実証した。[Y. Sunada et al., PRX Quantum 5, 010307 (2024). ]。
③導波路上のマイクロ波伝搬モードにおけるシュレディンガーの猫状態の生成―研究代表者らが以前に理論提案した独自方式[H. Goto et al., Phys Rev A 99, 023838 (2019)]による導波路モード上に猫状態生成実験を行い、伝搬モードの量子トモグラフィにより生成された猫状態を定量的に評価した。
④伝搬モード型ジョセフソンパラメトリック増幅器(JTWPA)―直列に配置された2400個のジョセフソン接合からなるマイクロ波非線形導波路を用いた四光波混合型のJTWPAを設計・試作した。従来の方式に比べ、Alの平面型回路を用いて低損失化を図るとともに、特性インピーダンスの空間変調による位相整合と外部伝送線路とのインピーダンス整合を実現し、世界最高レベルの広帯域・高利得・低雑音の特性を得た。

Reason

マイクロ波量子光学の物理と技術は多様な方面の研究開発とつながっており、基礎的な学理においても、また応用においても、次々と新しいアイデアが生まれ成果が出始めている。上記「研究実績の概要」に記載できなかった例として他に、他に、3つの伝搬モードと共振器を介して結合するジョセフソン接合リング回路を用いた、マイクロ波駆動を必要としない受動的な非相反回路としてのマイクロ波サーキュレータ回路の実証[Y. Takeda et al., in preparation]や、ドイツのWalthe-Meissner Instituteのチームと共同で取り組んできた、複数の磁束駆動型ジョセフソンパラメトリック増幅器により生成される伝搬モード上の真空スクイーズド状態を利用したマイクロ波量子光学実験[F. Kronowetter et al., Phys. Rev. Applied 20, 024049 (2023)]、韓国CAPP/IBSと共同で取り組んでいるジョセフソンパラメトリック増幅器を用いたアクシオン探索実験、中国北京計算科学研究センターと共同で行った、超伝導量子ビットと非常に強く結合したマイクロ波共振回路との間に生じる基底状態における量子もつれがもたらす、別のプローブ用量子ビットの対称性の破れの観測[S.-P. Wang et al., Nature Commun. 14, 4397 (2023).]なども挙げられる。プロジェクト開始後2年弱が経過し、多くのノウハウも蓄積されてきたため、今後も想定以上の成果が見込まれる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後も引き続き、超伝導回路上のマイクロ波量子光学、特に導波路量子電磁力学の分野で、マイクロ波伝搬モード上の量子状態に対する新たな制御・観測手法を開発することを目指した研究を行う。
① 伝送線路上に多数の量子ノードが接続された全結合型1次元量子ネットワーク―超伝導量子ビットからマイクロ波共振器を介して、導波路上の周波数および波形が制御された伝搬モードへ単一光子あるいはその真空状態との重ね合わせを放出・吸収し、量子状態を伝送するための基本素子を実証してきたので、それらを組み合わせた量子状態転送実験に取り組む。
② 時分割モード間の量子もつれ状態生成と測定型量子計算へ向けた量子フィードフォワード制御―量子フィードフォワードの実現のためには高速かつ短いレイテンシでフィードフォワード制御を行う必要がある。時分割モード間の量子もつれ状態生成とその評価を行うとともに、高速フィードフォワード制御技術の開発を進める。
③ ジョセフソン接合の非線形性を利用した伝搬モード型パラメトリック増幅器の開発と応用―これまでに獲得した独自の設計指針に基づく、低損失・低雑音のJTWPAの一層の性能向上を進める。同時に、非相反利得のより一層の抑制や、三光波混合型JTWPAへの展開、超伝導細線のカイネティックインダクタンスの非線形性を利用した反射型あるいは伝搬モード型パラメトリック増幅器(KTWPA)の開発などの新しい取り組みも行う。
④ マイクロ波単一光子検出器の量子センシングへの応用―超伝導量子ビットやジョセフソン接合の強い非線形性を利用した三光波混合あるいは四光波混合を用いた微小マイクロ波信号に対する標準量子限界以下の低雑音位相敏感型増幅技術や単一光子検出技術を駆使して、量子センシング技術の高感度化への貢献を目指す。強磁性体中のマグノンの単一量子計測や、アクシオン探索実験への応用などに引き続き取り組む。
