Outline of Research at the Start

本研究の目的は、強的秩序の素励起がもたらす非平衡輸送物性の学理「マルチカロリトロニクス」の開拓である。強誘電体中の自発電気分極の集団励起モード「フェロン」による熱輸送・熱電変換現象や、フェロン物性と電子・マグノン物性のインターフェースとなる原理を解明し、スピンカロリトロニクスの概念を強誘電体やマルチフェロイクスにまで拡張する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、強誘電体をスピンカロリトロニクスに導入し、新たな輸送現象の物理と機能性を開拓することを目的としている。主な研究実績は以下の通りである。
①強誘電体における熱電変換現象の開拓: 分担者の井口を中心として、誘電体への周期的な一様電場印加に対する熱電応答の系統的な測定と解析を進め、再現性を担保すると共に論文化に必要なデータの取得が完了した。また、強誘電体/金属接合構造において、電気分極方向に依存した非自明な熱電応答を観測しており、起源解明に向けた系統的な実験を進めた。
②人工マルチフェロイック物質におけるスピンカロリトロニクス現象の開拓: 分担者の小塚との共同実験により、強磁性金属/(非磁性)強誘電体二層接合において、強磁性金属単体よりも大きな横型熱電変換を観測した。強磁性金属/強誘電体界面におけるスピン流-電流変換の発現が示唆される結果である。また、強誘電体基板上に成膜した磁性ホイスラー合金における磁気熱電効果の電界制御を試みた。
③新規熱計測・物質合成法の確立: 継続課題として、ロックインSThM法によるスピンカロリトロニクス現象の計測を進めた。装置面の準備は整い、最適な測定条件が確定し次第様々な実験に適用できる。物質合成面では、新規にCVD法や化学合成法を駆使した低次元ナノ物質の合成を開始した。
④関グループでは、継続課題として時間・空間反転対称性の破れた物質群の合成・探索と、それらを利用した新現象の開拓を進めた。
⑤マルチカロリトロニクス理論の拡充: 分担者のBauerを中心として、強誘電体薄膜における表面・体積電気分極波に関する詳細な解析を行い、その励起モードを明らかにした。加えて、マグノン駆動型磁気熱抵抗効果の提唱、ノンコリニア反強磁性体におけるスピンポンピングの定式化、内因性軌道ホール効果に対する乱れの影響に関する理論の構築等を進めた。

Reason

実験研究者と理論研究者の協働により、強誘電体を取り入れたスピンカロリトロニクス・熱輸送・熱電変換の物理に新展開をもたらす成果が複数得られており、順調に進展していると判断した。一部の成果については実験結果の信頼性・再現性の確認のため論文化が遅れている一方で、当初の想定を超えた成果も得られている。研究代表者・分担者及び各グループのメンバーが集結して最新の成果を議論する全体ミーティングを研究開始以降4回開催しており(NIMS、東京大学、東北大学の持ち回りで開催)、研究チーム内の連携体制は盤石である。
研究代表者の内田はNIMSとのクロスアポイントメントにより2024年4月に東京大学に着任し、新領域創成科学研究科に研究室を立ち上げた。実験室の新規立ち上げのため東京大学における研究環境はまだ十分に整備されていないが、教員(准教授・助教)と多くの学部生・大学院生が加入し人員体制は整ったため、次年度からさらに研究を加速させる。本研究に専任で従事する研究員(NIMSポスドク研究員1名、東北大学特任助教1名)の状況は昨年度と同様であるが、プロジェクトも後半に入ったため、キャリアアップも視野に入れて研究を着実に進めている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

内田グループの喫緊の課題は、測定・解析が完了した強誘電キャパシタ構造における熱電効果(均一な電場によって誘起される誘電体ペルチェ効果)に関する論文を早期に完成させることである。実験面に関しては、引き続き井口・小塚と協力し、主にロックインサーモグラフィ法に基づく動的熱イメージング技術を駆使して、強誘電体/金属複合構造におけるフェロンドラッグ効果の観測、マルチフェロイック物質における磁気熱電・熱スピン効果の観測と機能性実証を中心課題として進める。電場勾配印加時の熱電応答に関する測定も開始する。2023年度に導入したナノ・マイクロスケール磁気・誘電・熱物性イメージングシステムにおけるSThMのロックイン化はすでに完了しており、最適な測定条件を探索している状況である。早期にこれを完了させ、赤外線カメラに基づくロックインサーモグラフィ法ではアクセスできなかったナノ領域における熱輸送・熱電物性の計測・評価基盤を確立する。内田が新規に東京大学に研究室を立ち上げ、中西勇介准教授が加入したことにより、これまで取り扱うことができなかった各種低次元ナノ物質を合成可能になった。今後、磁性や強誘電性を持つ低次元ナノ物質の利用についても検討を進め、マルチカロリトロニクスに新展開をもたらす。
関グループでは、非自明な対称性の破れを有する物質群(準周期系・交代磁性体等)の開拓と、その特異な輸送現象の検証に取り組む。関グループは研究拠点を東京大学本郷キャンパスから駒場キャンパスに移したタイミングであり、2025年度前半は実験室の立ち上げに注力する必要がある。実験環境が整い次第、内田グループとの連携を強化して上記課題の解決に貢献する。
Bauerグループでは、マルチカロリトロニクス理論をさらに拡充すべく、非局所フェロン輸送理論の構築やフェロン流の生成・検出原理の提案を継続的に進める。
