Outline of Research at the Start

気候変動の将来予測における不確実性の一因は陸域生態系の炭素循環にある。本研究はその要因を大胆な仕組みにより解消し、将来予測の高精度化を目指す。具体的には、気象観測が主な用途である複数の新世代型静止衛星に着目し、その仮想的な国際観測ネットワークにより陸域生態系を観測する。それにより全球規模の超高頻度観測を実現し、その利点を生かした陸域生態環境モニタリングを行う。特に、熱帯雨林帯植生の変動把握・植生の水ストレス状態の把握・展葉、落葉時期の日単位での把握・数値モデルの精緻化を試み、これまで頻発な雲被覆のためモニタリングが非常に困難であった地域に対して、陸域生態系環境の変動を明らかにする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

主にひまわり8号データの陸面モニタリングのための基本物理量となる地表面反射率の推定とその検証を完成させた。標高による位置ずれの影響として、ひまわり観測域では最大5ピクセル程度の位置ずれを起こすこととその補正の重要性を明らかにした。さらに、地表面反射率の算出の際には、従来の静止衛星の検証では低緯度地域でのみ従来型の衛星観測との相互比較による検証が可能であった。多方向観測を行うTerra衛星搭載MISRセンサを利用し、中緯度域においても相互比較が可能になった。これはひまわり8号のみならず他国の静止衛星にも同じ概念が適用できることから世界の静止衛星研究に影響を与える結果を得た。また、地表面反射率の推定については、地上観測ネットワーク班による大気観測ネットワークを適用し、入力大気パラメータの精度とその誤差が結果に与える影響を評価した。本反射率推定手法を他国(韓国・米国)の静止衛星に適用し、正常に動作することを確認した。

静止衛星陸面データを用いた応用解析においては、陸域生態系分野への新たな知見の創出として、(1)各種高次データセット(葉面積指数、蒸発散量、光合成量など)の構築、(2)地表面温度の日変化を利用した植生の乾燥状態の抽出、(3)東南アジア熱帯雨林地域における光合成活動などのモニタリングを実施し、陸域生態系の動態に関するいくつかの知見を得た。特に静止衛星ひまわりの10分毎の地表面温度データ連続値を用いて、熱慣性の変化に着目した植生の乾燥シグナルの抽出方法を提案した。この地表面温度の日変化情報が地表面の熱慣性の情報を含み、猛暑時・乾燥時には日変化のパターンが変化するという仮説を立て、植生の乾燥シグナルの抽出に成功した。この成果は2023年7月にプレスリリースを実施し、複数の新聞やWebメディアに掲載された。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

地上観測データ整備班:日本やアジア地域を中心とした実観測を継続し、観測データを蓄積する。さらに、アメリカ大陸・欧州・アフリカ大陸に関しては公開されている観測データセットを調査・整備する。これらのデータを他班に提供し、検証研究を推進する。
静止衛星プロダクト構築班:これまで構築した地表面反射率・地表面温度算出用のコードを用いて、韓国・中国・欧州の静止衛星に応用し、地表面反射率などの基盤プロダクトを構築する。基盤プロダクトについて、海外協力者のNASA Ames のプロダクトと相互比較を行い、改善点を模索する。
静止衛星観測網統合班:日中韓の静止衛星に関して、観測波長帯や衛星の位置の違いを考慮し各国センサの違いを補正したデータを構築する。
データ応用解析班:ひまわり8/9 号データを用いたアルベド、葉面積指数、蒸発散量、光合成量などの基本的な陸域生態系のパラメタを推定するアルゴリズムを完成させる。日米欧の3 種の静止衛星データを用い、東南アジア・アマゾン・アフリカの熱帯雨林の動態を比較解析し、陸域生態系VISIT モデルと整合するかを確認する。地上観測データ整備班から提供された植生フェノロジー観測データと静止衛星から推定されるフェノロジーを比較し、従来の極軌道衛星による解析よりどれくらい正確に展葉・落葉を推定できるか確認する。オーストラリア半乾燥域に着目し、異常高温・乾燥時の植生の光合成活動の低下の程度を確認し、陸域生態系モデルVISIT と比較をする。特に生態系の気孔コンダクタンスの変化に着目し、観測データよりモデルパラメータを推定する。
