Outline of Research at the Start |
This project explores the theoretical significances of variegated discourses produced by some Caribbean intellectuals, as well as their relevance to other parts of the world that likewise consist of, among other things, islandic cultures or archipelagic formations, such as Japan and Taiwan.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
There have been discussions with my collaborators on the theoretical relevance of Caribbean thoughts and practices to contemporary debates on cultural resistance against various forms of authoritarianism that have global ramifications. My accepted conference paper, titled "Authoritarianism in What State? Anti-authoritarian Democracy in the Contexts of Old and New Cold Wars," addresses the aforementioned theoretical issues and will be presented on June 9, the first day of the 2023 ICCTP (International Consortium of Critical Theory Programs) conference at Kyung Hee University, Seoul. It is in this gathering of specialists on critical theory that the first of the project's three-part objectives will be achieved: to reconsider the significances of both "theory" and "Caribbean theory."

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Considering the interdisciplinary nature of the project and my book project, on a different topic, that resulted in a published monograph last August, the research and the findings have proceeded efficiently and according to plan.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
More readings and research on related topis have been planned. More exchanges or ideas in the aforementioned conference and regular discussions with my collaborators and colleagues will continue for the advancement of this project. The arguments and insights I've developed in this process thus far will be integral and useful to the articles to be written in the coming year.
