Outline of Research at the Start |
This research project is an analysis of the production of haiku in 19th and 20th Latin American Literature. Ultimately the project seeks to discover the origins of orientalized discourse related to haiku by tracing historical and literary processes that have led to the propagation of distorted notions of this poetic style. This project intends to build on research the three collaborators have previously developed in the studies of nationalist literature and hopes to contribute to the reshaping of haiku among Latin American literati and correct essentialist notions of Japanese culture.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
For the year 2022 the project members attended numerous academic conferences both nationally and internationally. The conferences attended allowed the project members to assess current research and its implications on the present research project. Contacts were made were researchers pertinent to the project and future collaborations were negotiated. Meetings and communications were carried with regards to project details and research organizations. The ultimate goal of the present project is the publication of a book for which a general outline of chapters and topics have been discussed. This year's research activities has laid the foundation for research for the following years and has provided momentum towards furthering the academic activities related to the present research project.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The progress has been slightly delayed due to the heavy workload following three years of pandemic related restrictions. The return to in person classes and the implementation of additional administrative responsibilities related to post- covid academic activities has required that more effort be placed on class preparation and student orientations and less on research activities related to the current project. In addition, travel restrictions implemented during the pandemic limited the ability for overseas collaboration and collection of data.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The project members have planned to continue the current strategy with respect to the present research project. For the present academic year research articles are currently being elaborated for publication in academic journals. A more specific outline of the book to be published, as well as the assignment of specific chapters and contents related to the book, are being designed for the present year. Also the collection of data from overseas sources is being planned for the near future. A possible visit to San Marcos University in Lima, Peru to collaborate with researchers doing similar studies and publishers interested in the book the present project plans to publish is bing considered.
