Outline of Research at the Start

本研究の目的は、自然言語における様々な種類の最小化詞の意味・機能を考察し、最小化詞(minimizer)の多様性の本質を明らかにすることである。具体的には、「感覚・感情と極性の関係」、「(非)字義性と極性の関係」、「排他性と低スケール性の関係」について統語論、意味論、語用論の観点から考察し、最小化詞の多様性を実証的・理論的に解明する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的は、自然言語における様々な種類の最小化詞(minimizer)の意味・機能を統語論、意味論、語用論の観点から考察し、最小化詞の多様性の本質を理論的・実証的に明らかにすることである。具体的には、「感覚・感情と極性の関係」、「(非)字義性と極性の関係」、「排他性と低スケール性の関係」に焦点を当て、最小化詞の多様性を実証的・理論的に解明する。
2年目は1年目に行った研究をさらに深めると同時に関連現象について考察した。具体的には、主として以下の研究を行った。[1] モーラに基づく最小化詞「XY…のXの字」の非字義的用法についての論文をまとめ、Natural Language Semanticsに掲載した。[2] 否定極性項目として振舞う日本語の「かけら」の期待的・感情表出的特性について考察し、ワークショップで進行中の研究内容について発表した。[3] 日本語の「かすかに」や英語のfaintly等の感覚を基盤にした最小化詞の意味・使用についての研究を論文としてまとめた。[4] 日英語の反応態度的な意味を持つ強調詞の極性敏感性ついて考察し、論文としてまとめ、本の一章として出版した。[5] 否定的な比較表現「比べ物にならない」の意味についてLinguistic Society of America、日本英語学会、Kobe Linguistics Symposiamで発表した。[6]スケール性を持つ累加表現の意味について考察し、現時点の考えを論文としてまとめた。

Reason

プロジェクト全体としては、おおむね順調に進んでいると言える。これまでの研究により、最小化詞には、意味・機能に関してバリエーションがあることがわかった。たとえば、モーラに基づく最小化詞(例:「言語学のげの字も知らない」)は、知識や情報に関わる述語と共起しやすく、ターゲットにおける最初のモーラを焦点化する特性を持っている。また否定文で使われる「かけら」は持っていると期待されている属性を全く持っていないという反期待的な意味・機能を持っている。また、「かすかに」や「ほのかに」は肯定環境で使われ、経験・感覚に基づく計量を行っている。今後は言語事実をさらに詳しく調査するとともに、最小化詞のバリエーションの背後にあるメカニズムについて理論的考察したい。また研究を行う中で明らかになった新たな課題や問題点についても再考する。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本年度は、昨年度行った研究をさらに深める。とりわけ、以下の点に焦点を当てる。
[1] 引き続き、「かすかに」、「ほのかに」、faintlyの意味・使用について考察する。とりわけ、それらの持つ体験的な意味特性について個人的嗜好述語との比較を通して検討する。[2] 否定極性項目として使われる「かけら」の意味・機能について、アンケート調査やコーパスデータも用いながら詳しく調査し、論文としてまとめる。[3] 非字義的な最小化詞の多様性について日本語、英語のデータを中心に調査する。[4] スケール性を持つ累加表現の意味および生起環境について引き続き考察する。[5] 感情表出の意味的バリエーションについて極性の観点から考察する。[6]「比べ物にならない」等の否定的な比較表現の意味について引き続き考察し、論文としてまとめる。
