| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, a survey was conducted with a primary focus on the scores of Noh chants. The independence of each special mora was then discussed. In consideration of the 15th-century segmental awareness as exemplified in the extant scores of Noh chants by KOMPARU Zenchiku, a high degree of independence was identified among special moras for hatsuon, nasal plosives, and ou. Conversely, sokuon, au, eu, uu, and ei exhibited low independence, suggesting the likelihood of lengthening in these diphthongs. Furthermore, a comparison of Noh chants by KOMPARU Zenchiku from the mid-15th century with chant books from the 16th century onward revealed that hatsuon, nasal plosives, and the posterior elements of diphthongs, which had a medium degree of independence, became part of the group with high independence, while the independence of sokuon decreased from low level to medium level.
