Outline of Research at the Start |
This study will show: - Common patterns of motivation/demotivation in terms of resistance, engagement and mixed feelings to foreign language learning. - Different factors that cause students to resist, engage or have mixed-feelings about foreign language learning. - Implications for both students and educators to understand and manage motivation better. - Classroom methods to raise learner awareness of factors that cause resistance and engagement will be developed in the final year. This is carried out to encourage learner self-efficacy and learner autonomy.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
1)Research promotion. We contacted research and academic groups to publicize the data collection instrument. 2)Research meetings. All of the team members attended regular online meetings, and the team members attended one face to face meeting. 3)Preliminary findings. The team members produced preliminary findings from the collected data. 4)Research presentations. All team members presented our research at 2 national conferences: i) SIETAR Annual Conference and ii) JALT ICLE Conference. The principal investigator also presented the preliminary results at SUTLF 2023. 5)Research publication. The team also published a research article.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The team followed the research plan for Year 1 and we could fulfil our original goals. One area that we could not achieve was the statistical analysis of the quantitative data. However, this will be accomplished in Year 2.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In Year 2 the team will statistically analyse the quantitative data which was collected in Year 1. The team also intends to publish an academic article with the findings. Furthermore the team will present these results at academic conferences. In addition, the team will continue to collect more data by reaching out to academic groups and we aim to recruit research collaborators to conduct case studies.
