Outline of Research at the Start

Research has shown that teachers with a high sense of self-efficacy perform better in the classroom. Despite the growing importance of teacher self-efficacy in foreign language education, there is no research investigating this among public elementary school teachers in Japan.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

In our second year we collected more data with an revised survey and collected data from 206 participants. We also conducted interviews with a small group of teachers. We also did two research presentations about our first data collection set at two international conferences, and in May will present in Spain at another international conference. We have completed writing one research article and submitted it to an international journal. We are currently writing another article, and then will start writing our third research paper on the second data collection. We are exploring the possibility to do classroom observations with some participants. We are on course to complete this study in the allotted timeframe.
