Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、国際的志向性が低い学生の異文化感受性を育て、英語力と共に自己効力感を向上させる英語・異文化理解教育に貢献することを目指す。具体的には次の項目について研究を行う。
1つ目として、国際的志向性が低い学生の異文化や英語に対する心持ちや背景に関する調査を行う。
2つ目は、異文化感受性発達モデルによる各段階の学生への効果的な異文化理解指導法を考案する。
3つ目は、異文化協働学習等コロナ禍でも可能なオンラインを含む交流学習を通し、異文化への興味喚起と英語学習への意欲変化を検証する。
4つ目は、既存の発達尺度と英語・異文化理解指導法の見直し、教育理論の改善、高度化を図る。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

With the long-standing goal of enhancing learners’ self-efficacy alongside their language proficiency through language education, our English instruction has emphasized the development of a new self-image (L2 Self) through English.
Through this practice, we have come to recognize that fostering both self-efficacy and international orientation is also a crucial component of language acquisition. Therefore, in addition to classroom instruction focused on intercultural understanding and English communication, we implemented Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) activities with overseas students and training programs at experiential English education institutions such as Tokyo Global Gateway (TGG).
As a result, surveys based on the Intercultural Sensitivity Development Scale confirmed improvement in students’ intercultural sensitivity.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

国際系ゼミや科目を選択しながら英語や海外への関心が薄く、また自己効力感の低さによりコミュニケーションや英語使用に消極的な学生に対し、英語力と共に自己効力感、国際的志向性を向上させるためのリメディアル英語教育と並行し、海外の大学とのCOIL(Collaborative Online International Learning)活動やTokyo Global Gateway等の英語実践教育機関での研修も活用する異文化理解教育を進めた。
学習者の異文化感受性の変化が明確に捉えられた結果から、本教育方針が国際的志向性の低い学生に対して効果的であることが確認出来た。
