本研究は、1960年代末から1970年代初頭にかけて先進国を中心に世界で同時多発的に見られた学生を中心とする若者たちの政治的社会的抗議運動及び文化的異議申し立ての動き（以下「1968年」と総称する）の比較研究のフレイムワークの構築を目指すべく、「冷戦秩序と各国の戦後秩序体制との相克」を、戦後国際秩序における覇権国たる米国とそのJunior Partnerである日本と西ドイツを対象として具体に分析し、そうした「相克」の実相とそれぞれの「1968年」との関係を明らかにすることで、「1968年」の比較研究の一つの基本的視座を定めることを目的とする。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study analyses '1968' in relation to the post-war Cold War order and provides answers to the most important question in the study of '1968': the global simultaneity and consequences of '1968', beyond conventional mainstream research that views it as a 'cultural revolution'. Firstly, it notes that various problems frozen and suppressed during the formation of the post-war Cold War order have become inextricably linked to the demands of that order. This has led to the emergence of 1968-related problems in diverse forms across different countries and regions. Secondly, it reveals that the argument that '1968 produced nothing (except in cultural terms)' is itself a product of the politics surrounding the issues that were 'thawed' during this period.

本研究は、国際的な次元での冷戦秩序と各国の戦後秩序の相克と交錯、それが解き放つダイナミズムとの関係で「1968年」を理解することの有効性を確かめる作業を実施したものである。この国際政治的次元と各国の戦後政治体制の関係を中心に置くアプローチにより、従来の研究では十分に視野に入ってこなかった「1968年」における「政治」の問題が浮き彫りにされた。すなわち「1968年」は、大戦後に形成された国際・国内秩序の動揺と再編に関わる出来事であったのであり、本研究は「1968年」をもっぱら「文化革命」として性格づけてきた従来の主流の研究には大きな問題があることを示すものとして位置づけることができる。
