Outline of Research at the Start |
This research project brings insights from design management and cultural studies to discuss the development path of Japanese companies over time. It looks at three industries (apparel, automobile, and watches) and analyzes the historical evolution of design management.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We prepared the application to a session on design management at the European Business History Association, to be held in Lisbon in July 2024, where we will present the results of our joint research. Our workshops in Tokyo and Osaka helped us to develop a new framework to shed a new light on the lack of competitiveness of Japanese manufacturing companies, by merging approaches in design management and human resources management. Presentations and papers were made the design management of Japanese car companies and Swiss watch firms. The main investigator cooperated on the preparation of a paper on the impact of housewives on design management in the Japanese electric appliances industry (paper accepted by Business History Review, to be published in 2024).
