本研究は、日本帝国期における学校教育を基盤として送出された「満蒙開拓青少年義勇軍」の〈帰還〉の局面に着目し、以下の二点の課題を解明することを通じて、「満蒙開拓青少年義勇軍」に関する基礎的事実を把握すると共に社会的認識の特徴を把握することを目的とする。
第一に、〈帰還〉はどのように実施されたのか。この課題の解明は、主に占領期における〈帰還〉をめぐる政策意思の系統的把握とその具体化に関する実証的分析が中核である。
第二に、〈帰還〉はどのように受容されたのか。この課題の解明は、主に日本国政府による「満蒙開拓青少年義勇軍」の処遇の特徴と体験記録等に見られる認識の特徴とに関する理論的分析が中核である。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study focused on the “return” of the “Manchurian Youth Volunteer Army” to Japan, which was sent out based on school education during the Japanese Imperial Period, and aimed to understand the basic facts about the “Manchurian Youth Volunteer Army” and the characteristics of social perceptions. The following three findings were obtained. First, the accumulation of references that do not take into account the characteristics of the time of sending out, the area of sending out, and the time of enrollment in training camps, second, the perception that does not take into account the characteristics of the types of training camps located in “Manchukuo” has been reflected in descriptions of the repatriation, and third, there is a tendency to draw “tragedy” from historical events. Third, the tendency to draw “tragedy” from historical events can be pointed out as a general characteristic of social awareness.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
「満蒙開拓青少年義勇軍」の〈帰還〉は海外引揚という歴史事象に含まれるが、「義勇隊開拓団」として一戸を成していない訓練所在籍者の存在に思い至れば、送出時に負荷された使命・任務の解除と見なすべきである。引揚と括ることは〈未帰還〉の実態を探求するうえでも有益ではない。 満州移民史研究の系譜に属する論考は成人を対象とする満州移民の系で「満蒙開拓青少年義勇軍」に論及するにとどまる場合がほとんどであり、その点は〈帰還〉をめぐっても同断である。〈帰還〉をめぐる諸事実を抽出し、全国的な動態を把握することを試みた。それはいわゆる戦争体験の継承と呼ばれる社会的営為の内実を解き明かす橋頭堡となるものである。
