| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究では、明治期以降に日本で製作された、近代西洋医学を学ぶための医学教育掛図が持っていた教育的意味を明らかにする。そして、掛図に連なる視覚教材の系譜と教材に引き継がれてきた価値について探究する。医学教育掛図の一例として、京都大学に残る医学教育掛図（解剖学掛図・病理学掛図）を取り上げる予定である。この調査過程において、医学教育掛図の研究利用と未来への継承を目的としたデジタル・アーカイブの構築、および各地の医学部に残る歴史的医学教材に関する情報交換・研究ネットワークを構想する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We conducted a survey (cataloging, estimation of production date, educational use, the original drawings in an anatomical textbook, etc.) of wall charts for anatomical education, especially those have remained in the faculty of medicine at Kyoto University. A series of wall charts is one of the visual educational tools used in medical education since the Meiji period. To explore how the wall charts were used in a classroom, we interviewed medical school graduates about their learning experiences with visual educational tools and changes in the way of learning. Preserving the charts is essential for studies about the charts. Therefore, we used perspectives of archive construction and preservation science to repair and preserve the charts and digitalized them. Visiting institutions in Japan that hold medical education charts gave opportunities to exchange information and to discuss possibility of utilizing historical materials in the future.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本調査により解剖学教育掛図の使用方法や教育的意図について検討がなされたことは、医学教育掛図の教育史上、意義があると考えられる。また、卒業生への聞き取り調査から、解剖学図譜からの学びに関する語りや病理学教育掛図、黒板上に描かれた身体の図に関する語りが聞かれ、身体について視覚を通じて学ぶことが、学習者の記憶に残る学習経験となっていた可能性が窺われた。本調査では解剖学教育掛図の修復、保存・保管方法の検討も行っているが、調査結果およびこれら検討が、今後の医学教育上の解剖学教育掛図の活用や保存活動だけではなく、教材史研究や教育方法の歴史的変遷に関する研究領域の可能性を広げることにつながる可能性がある。
