Outline of Research at the Start

ガンマ線バーストは宇宙最大の爆発現象で、ほんの数秒間で、太陽が一生に放出するエネルギーと同等のエネルギーをガンマ線として放出する。巨星が重力崩壊したり、中性子星連星が合体した時に起きる現象だと考えられている。ガンマ線バーストには、数時間から1年以上に渡って、緩やかに減光する残光と呼ばれる現象が、電波からガンマ線に渡って観測されている。これは星間物質を伝播する相対論的な衝撃波から放たれていると考えられており、その衝撃波で放射を担う粒子の加速機構や、磁場の強度などを、数値シミュレーションと観測されたガンマ線残光とを比較することで、明らかにする。相対論的衝撃波特有のプラズマの挙動を探ることができる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2023年度は、GRBのガンマ線残光についての研究を大きく前進させることができた。我々のグループは、相対論的な磁気優勢ジェットのシミュレーションを行い、従来考えられていたよりも高い効率でジェットのエネルギーを散逸できることを発見した。現在、この研究をさらに発展させ、GRB残光のガンマ線観測から、ジェットの組成が磁場優勢かどうかを判定するスキームを開発中である。金沢大学のGeVガンマ線観測チームと協力して、GRB 180720Bのガンマ線残光のモデリングを行った。従来、GeV残光は先進衝撃波由来だと考えられていたが、このGRBは可視光と似たGeV残光の光度曲線の振舞いを見せ、スペクトル的にも両者は逆行衝撃波由来であることを指摘した。この結果、先進と逆行両者からの放射を取り入れたモデルの必要性が高まった。我々のグループでも、将来の同様の観測に向け、統一的なモデル、数値計算コードの開発を進めている。磁場優勢ジェット中では、相対論的な乱流が励起される可能性があり、そうした乱流中での放射過程には大きな不定性があった。我々は磁場優勢プラズマ中の大振幅円偏光アルヴェン波を考え、そこでのシンクロトロン放射をシミュレーションした。その結果、電子のスペクトルが変調を受け、一部のGRBで見られるような、歪んだ放射スペクトルを再現することに成功した。GRBと同様のジェット加速機構を持つと思われている、マグネターFireballのシミュレーションも行った。サイクロトロン共鳴散乱により、ジェットの加速効率が高まり、大きなローレンツ因子を持つOutflowが実現された。また、GRB残光のShallow Decayのシミュレーションに成功し、将来のガンマ線観測で、モデルの判別が可能になることを示した。

Reason

上記で示したように、順調に数値計算コードの開発などを進め、様々な対象に対する議論ができるようになった。成果は論文として発表されており、様々な国際会議での発表も行った。次のステップに進む準備も万全で、更なる発展も期待できる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

磁場優勢ジェットのシミュレーションコードを用いて、残光のForward Shock、Reverse Shock両方の寄与を定量的に計算し、ジェットの磁化率を求める。BOAT GRBと呼ばれる、2022年に観測されたGRB TeV残光の不可思議な振舞いを我々のモデルで再現する。特に磁気加速中の放射が、観測された急激な増光を再現する可能性がある。乱流中の放射過程についても、アルヴェン波だけではなく、圧縮性波動も考えて、スペクトルに与える影響を評価する。微視的パラメータの時間発展も考えて、Shallow Decay Phaseに限らず、様々なGRB 残光のデータを解釈し、モデルに制限を加える。CTAによる将来観測へ備え、充分な準備をする。
