Outline of Research at the Start

大腸がん細胞周囲に存在する間質線維芽細胞が、腫瘍形成に重要な役割を担っていることが近年明らかとなってきた。よって、間質線維芽細胞を介した大腸がん形成機構を明らかにすることは、大腸がんに対する新たな治療戦略を考える上で非常に重要であると考えられる。
代表者は、大腸がん増悪に働くサイトカインInterleukin(IL)-11が、がん細胞ではなく、その周囲に存在する間質線維芽細胞で特異的に産生されていることを見出した。本研究は、IL-11産生を指標に、がん関連間質線維芽細胞を中心とした多細胞間シグナルネットワーク機構を明らかにし、新たな治療標的を見出すことを目的とする。
