Outline of Research at the Start

がんの再発は、患者の予後を規定する最も重要な要素の１つであり、再発メカニズムの解明と制御法の開発は、がん治療における喫緊の課題となっている。最近、がん治療および感染により引き起こされる炎症が、免疫細胞の活性化を介してがん増殖や転移を促進することが報告されている。申請者は、炎症時に出現する新しい単球サブセット（制御性単球）が、がん転移の促進に関与すること、また、この細胞ががん原発巣にも浸潤し、増殖を促進する可能性も突き止めていた。本研究では、炎症時に出現する制御性単球の性質について明らかにするとともに、制御性単球を標的としたがんの転移や増殖阻害法の開発をめざす。
