Outline of Research at the Start

多施設での臨床脳波検査で収集した大規模且つ疾患横断的なガンマ帯域神経活動データの解析を行う。これにより、主要な精神神経疾患(統合失調症・双極性障害・うつ病・自閉スペクトラム症)について、興奮性・抑制性神経系の異常からみた病態を明らかにする。本研究は将来的に、異種性が問題視されている精神疾患の再定義・再分類につながり得る。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Auditory steady-state response (ASSR) has emerged as a promising neurophysiological biomarker for psychiatric disorders. We systematically compared ASSR measures across various psychiatric populations. In schizophrenia, we observed a significant reduction in phase-locked gamma activity alongside an increase in spontaneous gamma power. In bipolar disorder, phase-locked gamma activity was also reduced, whereas spontaneous gamma activity did not differ from controls. In major depressive disorder and epilepsy, no significant group differences were detected; however, individualized analyses in epilepsy suggest the potential value of case-by-case examination. Notably, individuals with autism spectrum disorder exhibited a pattern similar to schizophrenia, with reduced phase-locked and mildly elevated spontaneous gamma activity. These findings support the utility of ASSR as a potential tool for elucidating the pathophysiology and identifying diagnostic biomarkers of psychiatric disorders.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究は、精神疾患における神経活動の異常を臨床脳波データに基づいて明らかにした点で学術的に重要である。特に統合失調症および自閉スペクトラム症における同期γ活動の低下と自発γの上昇という特異的なパターンの同定は、ASSRが精神疾患の生物学的指標として有用であることを示唆する。また、双極性障害やてんかんなど他疾患との比較を通じて、疾患特異性の検証にも貢献しており、ASSRが将来的に診断補助や病型分類、さらには治療予測バイオマーカーとして応用される可能性がある。社会的には、精神疾患の診断の客観性向上、早期発見・介入体制の構築、精神疾患の科学的理解の促進に資する点で意義深く、今後の展開が期待される。
