Outline of Research at the Start

糖尿病性腎臓病は、約20年にわたり我が国における末期腎不全の最大の原因疾患であるが、末期腎不全への進行抑制に有効な治療は限られており、糖尿病性腎臓病の未知の成因を解明して新しい治療手段を開発することは喫緊の課題である。我々はこれまでの一連の研究によって、糖尿病性腎臓病の成因に炎症(microinflammation)が関与していることを明らかにした。本研究は、糖尿病性腎臓病の炎症のメカニズムにおけるIL-18の新たな役割を解明することで糖尿病性腎臓病の新規治療薬の開発を目指す基礎的研究である。
