Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は,生体親和性に大変優れ,金属アレルギ-の発生が極めて少なく,生体に安全な歯科用純チタンの乾式精密研磨を可能にするための,アルギン酸ナトリウムを結合剤に用いた新たな軸付き砥石を開発する.結合剤に用いるアルギン酸ナトリウムは,食品添加物であり,砥石自体も生体に安全である.純チタンは,金属アレルギーの治療には大変有効であるが,極めて加工が難しい難削材である.よって,臨床においては,その使用が敬遠されがちである.
そこで,歯科医師および歯科技工士が,純チタン製の歯科補綴装置の製作に必要である高精度および高能率の乾式精密研磨加工を簡便に行うことができる歯科技工用軸付き砥石の開発を目的とする.

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Pure titanium for dental use is a safe material with excellent biocompatibility and a very low incidence of metal allergies. In this study, we developed a new mounted wheel using sodium alginate as a bond to enable dry precision polishing of pure titanium for dental use.
Sodium alginate is a food additive, and the mounted wheel itself is secure to the human body. Pure titanium is highly effective in treating metal allergies, but it is a challenging material to work with due to its difficulty in machining. Therefore, its use is often avoided in clinical practice. In this study, we developed a dry precision-mounted wheel for the precision polishing of pure titanium used in dental materials, which does not require any polishing fluid, and conducted polishing. The polishing characteristics necessary for developing the mounted wheel were obtained.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

純チタンは極めて機械加工が難しい難削材である.熟練した歯科技工士が,数種類の歯科技工用汎用軸付き砥石を用い長時間の湿式研磨を行っても,表面粗さを小さくするのは大変難しい.このため,(1)表面粗さが短時間で小さくなりかつ研磨液が不要である,(2)粗研磨から仕上げ研磨を1本の砥石で対応できる,といった研磨能力を有する乾式精密研磨用の軸付き砥石の研究開発が重要な課題となっている.純チタンの研磨が簡便になれば,歯科医師および歯科技工士の労力を大幅に削減でき,純チタンの使用機会が増加する.ひいては,本研究で得られた結果は,歯科における金属アレルギ-の治療に大きく貢献し,本研究の意義は極めて重要である.
