Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
A study was conducted to develop a long-term nursing support model for women after perinatal loss. The results indicated that the supporters had difficulties in psychological involvement with the mothers and self-care, and faced challenges in structural human resources and bereavement care education. The results suggest that the introduction of caring theory and ongoing educational support for supporters are important to address these issues. On the other hand, the emotional change process of mothers after the loss of a child is “the process of gaining a sense of self as the mother of the deceased child. The mothers were confused by the sense of loss of their role due to the death of their child, and they needed support from midwives to maintain their sense of reality and to express their grief in a safe and secure environment. The study suggested the need for support to fulfill the social needs of mothers during the long grieving process.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
