Outline of Research at the Start |
As cities modernize using smart technologies and privately financed smart cities increase, personal data processing becomes an integral part of urban development. These developments require a new framework for personal data protection and privacy.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In 2022, I carried out my research as initially planned, doing preliminary research by identifying and obtaining the necessary materials.During the year's first half, I was invited to be part of an international group of scholars dealing with law and technology issues. As part of this collaboration, I was asked to write chapters for two books: the first dealing with Japanese e-government initiatives and the second discussing AI decision-making processes. These two books' editorial processes are still ongoing, and are expected to be published in 2023. I was appointed to a new position at a different institution in July. The subsequent move and my new responsibilities slightly affected my research. Regardless, I wrote two papers in Spanish, one regarding public figures' privacy when using SNS platforms and the other on normative models of privacy in smart societies. Lastly, I was invited to speak at multiple international conferences dealing with smart societies on topics dealing with logistics, privacy, and e-government.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
My appointment at Waseda University, and all the preparation that entails, led to a slight decrease in academic production during the latter half of the year. Nevertheless, There have been no significant delays regarding research. However, the sudden decline in the yen's value led to a reexamination of how to administer and use research funds when planning international travel.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I plan to travel to Europe in August and September to participate in academic conferences and expand my academic network. In addition, I am currently writing academic papers and preparing academic presentations regarding the research topic.
