我が国においては、「1990年代に行われた選挙制度改革が、政党組織における党執行部への集権化をもたらした」という指摘がしばしばなされ、現代日本政治の理解における重要な論点の一つとなっている。
本研究は、しかしこうした主張における「集権化/集権性」という語にはそもそも曖昧さが残り、それゆえ「選挙制度改革が"集権化"をもたらした」という関係の背後にあるメカニズムも厳密には説明しきれていないことを指摘するものである。
本研究は集権性なる概念の内容を精査した上で、メカニズムの厳密な分析を可能にする数理分析という手法を用いることによってこの課題に応えるものである。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aims to reexamine the concept of “centralization of party organization”, one of the key concepts in the contemporary Japanese politics. The comprehensive literature review reveals that what has been described as "centralization" in Japanese politics literature is ambiguous and encompasses a variety of meanings. After clarifying the meaning of “centralization”, the formal analysis shows the relationship between the centralization of party organization and electoral/executive institutions.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
「選挙制度改革は政党組織における党執行部（ひいては首相）への集権化をもたらした」というテーゼは、現代日本政治分析における中心的なテーマの一つである。にもかかわらず、こうした主張の根本にある集権性/集権化なる概念は、その意味内容があいまいであり、それゆえそれを前提に打ち立てられる理論にも曖昧さが残る。
本研究は詳細な概念的検討により、集権性なる概念の意味内容を明確化し、そのうえで集権性の原因/帰結について、数理モデルを用いたより厳密な理論的検討を加えるものであり、現代日本政治の理解に貢献するものである。
