Outline of Research at the Start

The temporal and geographical variability of renewable energy have drawn increasing concerns on their potential shocks to the stability of the power system. This study is to quantitatively assess the impacts of renewable penetration in Japan, considering the connectivity of power grids. Firstly, a theoretical model will be built up to analyze the optimal power flows. Secondly, a simulation model will be adopted to find the relationships between renewable and fossil fuel generators. Lastly, spatial econometric models will be adopted to incorporate the impacts of transmission grids.

Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study provides an in-depth analysis of the economic impact of renewable energy integration in the Japanese electricity market. It reveals the heterogeneous effects of solar power proliferation, where residential electricity prices increase while commercial and industrial sectors see cost reductions. The research identifies the impact of 'duck curve' and 'peak shifting' phenomena on electricity pricing and highlights the stabilizing role of pumped hydro storage (PHS) in price regulation. The findings suggest the complexity of renewable energy integration on market price dynamics and the importance of policy interventions for market fairness and sustainability.

学術的意義として、本研究は再生可能エネルギーの市場価値と価格形成メカニズムの間の相互作用を解明し、電力市場における変動性と非調和性の経済的影響を定量化しました。また、PHSの調達活動を通じて価格安定化のメカニズムを明らかにし、再生可能エネルギーの経済的効率性と統合可能性を評価しました。
社会的な意義では、本研究は、再生可能エネルギーの普及が住宅消費者と商業・産業部門に与える異質的な影響を明らかに、市場公平性の問題提起しています。さらに、効果的な政策介入が持続可能なエネルギー市場の実現に必要であることを示唆し、政策立案者が市場動向を考慮した包括的な政策を構築する手助けをしています。
