Outline of Research at the Start

持続可能な開発目標は2015年に国連サミットで採択され、再生可能エネルギー(例: 磁気冷却)が注目されている。
NiMnGa合金は有望な磁気冷却材料であるが、合金中に転位等の格子欠陥が存在すると、磁場方向の変化による磁壁移動のヒステリシス損失が起き、磁気熱量効果が低下する。
本研究では、通常は有害な粒界脆化を利用し、均一形状で欠陥が少ないNiMnGa単結晶粒子の作製工程を確立する。さらに、磁気冷却のためのNiMnGa単結晶粒子/Cu板の積層複合材料を開発する。
形状自由度が高く大面積化できる高効率磁気冷却材料を実現する。また、赤外線カメラを使用し、複合材料の熱伝導性、磁気冷却効果等を3D評価する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、高速アクチュエータなどの応用のため、Ni-Mn-Ga強磁性形状記憶合金(Ferromagnetic shape memory alloys; FSMAs)の新たな複合材料の研究開発を目指している。従来、Ni-Mn-Gaの多結晶材料は粒界拘束のため、変形ひずみが極めて小さい、および、Ni-Mn-Gaの脆性問題で、実用できない問題点が知られている。本研究では、まず、BiがNi合金への粒界富化率が高いことを利用し、Ni-Mn-Gaの粒子を意図的に分散した。0.03 at.%のBiの添加濃度が最適と分かった。さらに、簡易的な機械粉砕法で、一定な温度で、Ni-Mn-Ga単結晶粒子を作製した。これらのNi-Mn-Ga単結晶粒子を利用し、シリコーンゴムと複合化することによって、従来の低変形量と脆性問題を解決した。
本研究では、これまで、単結晶Ni-Mn-Ga粒子/シリコーンゴムの複合材料を成功に作製し、その複合材料の磁場誘起変形挙動を明らかにした。本複合材料は、約0.2テスラの磁場では、磁場誘起マルテンサイト再配列が起き、変形し始まる。さらに、約0.7テスラでは約4%の変形ひずみが観察された。巨大な変形ひずみが本複合材料で達成できた。
実用するために、変形挙動以外にも、本複合材料のサイクリック安定性と長期安定性も観察した。まず、サイクリック安定性に関しては、変形ひずみが30%で30サイクルの圧縮試験を行った。初期(1サイクル目から10サイクル目まで)のサイクルでは、出力応力が徐々に下がったが、10サイクル目以降、出力応力がほとんど一定になった。本複合材料は高いサイクリック安定性を持つと示唆された。次に、試料の時効効果も行った。以前の先行研究から本若手研究で作製した試料を室温で保存し、1年、3年、5年保存した試料の磁場印加による形状変形が90%以上維持すると確認できた。

Reason

本若手研究は、おおむね当時の予想通りに進展している。まず、(1)Biの添加による結晶粒子の分散を確立し、また、Biの添加量の最適化によって、Ni-Mn-Ga粒子の特性に影響せず、粒子の分散を最大にした。次に、(2)適切な柔軟性を持つシリコーンゴムと複合化し、複合材料を成功に作製した。さらに、(3)本研究で創成した複合材料のサイクリック安定性(応力印加)、および、長期安定性(磁場印加)も問題なく実行した。
2023年度以前の研究の成果および2023年度からの研究進捗を加えて、2023年度では、本研究と関連する論文は6本が採択された。それぞれが、(1)Journal of Alloys and Compounds 976 (2024) 173236、(2)Micromachines 14(8) (2024) 1604、(3)Applied Sciences 13 (14) (2024) 8475、(4)Actuators 12 (5) (2024) 211、(5)Scientific Reports 13 (1) (2024) 7160、(6)Scripta Materialia 227 (2024) 115277である。
2023年度で、(1)単結晶Ni-Mn-Ga粒子/シリコーンゴム、および、(2)単結晶Ni-Mn-Ga粒子/Cu薄膜の複合材料を創成した経験の元で、2024年度(最終年度)の軟磁性粒子まはた軟磁性基材の添加による変形特性の向上の計画も順調に進展していくと考えている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

これまでの若手研究は、単結晶粒子の作製方法を確立した。また、その単結晶粒子を利用し、シリコーンゴムとの複合材料を成功に創成した。さらに、様々な複合材料の機械特性、磁気特性、サイクリック安定性、長期安定性などを評価した。
これまでの評価の結果では、マルテンサイトバリアント再配列に必要な磁場が0.2テスラと示唆された。また、0.7テスラの磁場印加では、最大の形状変形が達成できた。しかしながら、このような外部磁場印加は応用には高いと考えられている。したがって、本研究では、2024年度(最終年度)では、下記の2個の計画を実行することによって、材料の変形特性をさらに向上する予定である。
まずは、マルテンサイトバリアンド再配列(martensite variant reorientation)に必要な磁場を削減したいため、軟磁性材料(例:Feの粒子)を前述のNi-Mn-Ga単結晶粒子とシリコーンゴムと複合化する。Fe粒子が発する磁場が有効磁場(effective magnetic field)を増やす。したがって、外部から印加した磁場を削減しても、Ni-Mn-Ga単結晶粒子が同程度の有効磁場を受けるため、低い外部磁場でもマルテンサイトバリアンド再配列すると期待できる。次に、Ni-Mn-Gaの双晶の界面では、通常、欠陥などでピンニングされている(例:欠陥による固着)。今後、外部から印加したサイクリック応力、または、サイクリック磁場によって、複合材料をトレニンーグすることで、双晶界面のピンニング効果を緩和し、低磁場で印加しても、マルテンサイトバリアンド再配列することできると予想される。以上のことから、本研究の今後の予定は、上記の二つの手法で複合材料の形状変形特徴をより向上する。
