| Outline of Research at the Start |
腰痛や下肢の痛み・しびれの原因となる腰椎椎間板ヘルニアや腰部脊柱管狭窄症には椎間板変性がその病態に関与しているが、椎間板変性のメカニズムは不明な点も多い。変性した椎間板にアミロイド沈着を認めるが、それが椎間板に与える影響は不明である。本研究はアミロイド沈着が椎間板変性にどのような影響を与えるか解明することを目的とし、椎間板変性の予防法・治療法の確立を目指す。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Analysis of intervertebral disc tissue collected from patients with amyloidosis revealed the possibility of increased amyloid deposition in comparison with healthy subjects. In addition, amyloidosis patients have a higher incidence of intervertebral disc injury adjacent to fixation compared to healthy subjects, which is a complication of lumbar spine surgery.We believe that postoperative follow-up should be done with caution in patients with amyloidosis.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
腰椎手術において脊椎固定術の合併症に隣接椎間障害があるが、アミロイドーシス患者は健常者と比べて固定隣接椎間障害をきたす頻度が高いことがわかった。アミロイドーシス患者の場合は注意して術後フォローが必要と考える。
